Wow, just a year ago I garnered 200 followers here on NG, now we're at 300! It's not a lot but I am still ever so thankful that people like my work enough to give me a follow on any platform. I hope I'm able to amaze and provide a little light into others lives with my work. That being said, I haven't really provided much of a public update for a while.
10 months ago I scrapped a project that I was working on for 3 years, I just referred it as "Projekt Monster." It never had a clear vision and it was always rocky to develop. It started as a very Helltaker inspired small scale project revolving around sexualized monster girl designs. After a while I wanted it to be more, this was all during a very transitional period of my life, full of self discovery, conflict, and realization. To keep it short, the vision started changing rapidly as I wanted to pursue other directions with this project and my art in general going forward, and in the end I was just left with a big mess of sexualized gijinka characters shoved into something that flew too close to the sun.
This is where my current long-term project that I began rough concepting in December 2023 comes in. I've sprinkled it here and there with some rough concept art/designs, and it is called "Apothion." This was once a very old project that I worked on as a child, it got many many reiterations as I grew older, this would be the 4th and hopefully final vision. It is going to be a full fledged old school JRPG, inspired by games old and new in the genre, primarily Final Fantasy 7.
You're going to see a lot more of it in the coming year, as concepting is nearly done. You're going to see a lot more illustrations, 3D models, animations AND video games, (yes games plural), in the near future and I'm so excited for what's to come.
This is a bit depressing but the past few years have been rough as hell for me and my family; losing both of my grandmas, getting hospitalized due to myocarditis for a week, my own father passing away, and now this month hurricane Helene ravaging my community. If anything all of this has pushed me further to do better and reach for the stars, especially with Helene. It's been a big wakeup call for me, and I've frankly been a lazy piece of shit for a while, I'm changing that here and now. I'm gonna be back in full force with so much to come, and I'm glad to have others backing my endeavors, even if it is something as simple as hitting a "follow" button on a social platform. Thank you all so much, from the bottom of my heart, I'm gonna continue to provide bigger and better experiences for everyone that I can possibly reach with my skills.
Everyone stay safe out there, and no matter what, remember there's always beacons of light in this dark world. Let your challenges and strife guide you to a better more fulfilling enriched life, I love you all, and I won't disappoint! -Kai
